Shogran is a hill station in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is at an altitude of 2362 meters. Shogran is famous for the Siri Paye meadows. One of the best natural places for tourism in Pakistan. The Siri Paye meadows are at a height of 2500 meters above the sea level. You can clearly view the Makra Peak and Musa Ka Musala from the top. The name Siri Paye is given by the locals. Moreover, there are many stories about the name. Some say that Siri and Paye were lovers. But, that is a myth. In the Hindko language, Siri means a place where water is stored. Further, the word Paye means meadow or grazing ground for the animals. Also, like the Jahaz Banda meadows Kumrat valley, this place is lush green with mesmerizing views.

The total distance from Islamabad to Shogran is about 230 km. It takes almost 5 hours to reach there if the road is clear. But, most of the time you face high traffic because it is the main route for transporters and vehicles. This route is also known as the silk route. Also, the Hazara motorway is operational now which saves time for traveling. Once you reach Mansehra via Abbottabad. A few kilometers ahead there comes a place known as Atar Sheesha. From there Balakot is not more than at a distance of one hour. Shogran map location is also available on Google maps. Shogran is at a distance of 34 km from Balakot. The last point where your car can reach easily is Kiwi. Besides, there are a lot of rental jeeps available at Kiwi. So, do not risk your car as the track ahead is bumpy and has sharp edges with high elevation. The best is to rent a jeep. They will charge you nominal charges for that. It takes 30 to 40 minutes to reach the top on jeep. Further, you can ride your motorbike towards the Siri Paye meadows, the track is a bit dangerous and adventurous too. But, drive carefully and do not put a lot of weight on your bike. One single person on a motorbike is a good option.

If you are an adventurer and a hiking lover. Do not miss the hike from Shogran to Siri Paye meadows. This is a lovely experience. The track is lush green and naturally beautiful. The views during the hike are attractive and mesmerizing. It is a hike of 2.5 to 3 hours from Shogran to Siri Paye meadows. The hike level is moderate. In the rainy season, it gets slippery. So, wearing good hiking shoes will help you a lot. You can also ride a horse to reach the top in a very good budget.

Misconception About Siri Paye

There is a misconception about Siri. The local people call it a lake to attract tourists. But, Siri is not a lake. Whenever it rains the water gets stored in that bowl-shaped area. That gives it a view of a lake but it gets dry after some days due to the sunlight. So, calling Siri a lake is not a good option. There is no doubt that Siri has amazing beauty all around. Further when you move ahead towards the Paye meadows. The scene gets more beautiful. Dense forestry and clouds along with the birds chirping. The feeling is amazing.

In the summer, the weather is pleasant. The nights are cold you need a blanket too. But, in the winter snow covers the Siri Paye meadows. It receives an average snowfall of 3-4 feet. There are hotels available at Shogran with luxury facilities. But, if you want to camp at Siri Paye. You can take your camping tent along. But, make sure that if you are with your family it will not be suitable for you. It is always good to camp near some local population. You can ask them before camping so that everything goes smoothly.

  • Bag: This will help you to carry your stuff and bring back the garbage to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the Panjpeer rocks.
  • Shoes: Wear good and comfortable trekking shoes.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • Hiking Stick.
  • Warm clothes.
