I am sharing my experience and the exact location with all of you. The total distance from Islamabad to Poona village is approximately 100km via Pir Sohawa. It will take 2.5 hours for the car to reach Sajikot via the Margalla Hills Pir Sohawa / Sangada / Nalla Hazara. The road is newly built and is in good condition.

Moreover, you will find very less traffic on this route. The best thing is that the views on the journey are mind-blowing and soothing. Also, if you have been to the Nooran Di Dand waterfall, it will be easy for you to reach there.

There is an alternative route via the Hazara motorway. You have to take to travel until Havelian via the motorway and then turn towards the Sajikot Bazar road. The distance from Havelian to the Umbrella waterfall is 27 kilometers approximately. On the way, there is another beautiful waterfall the Sajikot waterfall. It is closed nowadays because of no safety precautions taken by visitors and the management. The Sajikot waterfall is very deep and one should not swim without a life jacket.

Note:

Avoid visiting these waterfalls in heavy rain as it gets difficult to descend. Moreover, the rain brings a lot of mud and floods in these hilly areas. Never try to be smart in front of mother nature and always take care of your safety.

The umbrella waterfall is at a distance of 4 kilometers from the Sajikot waterfall. After traveling 4 kilometers there is a left turn, the road is heading towards the Umbrella waterfall Pakistan.

In addition, there is parking available. They charge 50 Pkr for the motorcycles and 100 Pkr for the car parking. Also, there are a lot of shops and cafes for refreshments. The best is to try tea with Pakoras; an Asian dish which has potato and other vegetables. Enjoy your food.

The Umbrella waterfall trek starts near the parking. One has to trek down the hill for 20-25 minutes to reach the Poona waterfall in Abbottabad. The distance is not much but the hiking is steep. The hike is a bit difficult for non-hikers but it’s worth visiting. If you are wearing proper hiking shoes or shoes that you are comfortable with. Then this will become easy for you. While descending the last portion near the waterfall, there are big rocks that are slippery. Make sure your footwear should have a good grip.

Moreover, the local people have tied ropes for descending. You can use them when needed. They charge you 20-50 Pkr. You can also descend without using the rope it depends on your physical capability. But, it is always good to be on the safe side, right? Further, it will take 40 minutes approximately to hike back towards the road. The uphill hike is difficult but you can go slow and steady. It gets very slippery in the rainy season. Always take good care of your hiking or trekking gear.
